Window Installation Methods.

Brick, siding, or an aging frame, each home calls for a different installation method. We'll figure out which one yours needs.

Expert installation is at the core of what we do. We take full responsibility for delivering quality workmanship that earns trust and confidence from every client. Every home is different, so we adjust our approach to match the specific structure and needs of each project, ensuring reliable results built to last.

How a window is installed matters as much as the window itself. Accent Windows & Doors installs replacement windows across Toronto and the GTA using three methods: brick to brick, retrofit and stud to stud. The right one depends on your home's exterior and the condition of your existing frames. Our own crew installs every job, backed by a 10-year installation warranty.

Which Installation Method Is Right for Your Home?

Brick to Brick

This type of installation involves removing the entire existing window frame and replacing it with a brand new system. The new window includes a durable vinyl frame, energy efficient LOE2 glass, a finished interior wood or vinyl jamb, and an exterior brick mould, delivering a full upgrade in both performance and appearance. Typically used for brick homes, where a complete replacement ensures a precise fit, better insulation, and a clean finished look.

Retrofit

This type of installation involves partially removing the existing frame and fitting a new window within the original opening. The new system includes a durable vinyl frame and energy efficient LOE2 glass. Interior finishing is completed with cove moulding or other light trim to blend with the existing design, while the exterior is sealed with aluminum capping for a clean and protected finish. Commonly used in older homes or in spaces with custom interior details, where preserving the original look is just as important as improving performance.

Stud to Stud

This type of installation involves removing the entire existing window frame and replacing it with a new system. The new window includes a durable vinyl frame, energy efficient LOE2 glass, a finished interior wood or vinyl jamb, and an exterior aluminum brick mould, also known as flashing or capping, for added protection and a clean exterior finish. Commonly used in 10 to 20 year old homes with siding, aluminum, or wood exteriors, where proper sealing and protection are key to long lasting performance.

Wood and Vinyl Interior Finish

Whichever method you choose, you also pick an interior finish.

Wood Package

(interior finish option) Allow you to install matching wood trim or casing, making them a great choice when you want to blend with existing door frames or other interior finishes in your home. They provide a clean, custom look but require painting after installation.

Vinyl Package

(interior finish option) Allow for the use of vinyl trim or casing, making them a practical option when matching existing finishes is not required. They offer a clean, modern look and do not require painting or ongoing maintenance.

Both types of window package, the interior part of the window frame, are used in both brick to brick and stud to stud installations, ensuring a consistent and finished look regardless of the installation method.
